Last night Jen and I went to the CAC (free on Monday nights) to see Tara Donovan's art installations. She takes simple items and gets tons of them to create unreal sculptures. One room, for instance had a 36x36x36 cube of toothpicks. She just started buying tooth picks, then (on site at the museum) dumps them in to a box then removes the sides to have a free standing toothpick cube that, from a distance, looks like a bail of hay. No glue, no filler. Nothing. Straws, cups, straight pins, paper plates... everything is art for her. It is worth drive 2.5 hours, maybe 3 to check it out.
